Houston Attic Insulation Removal, Cleared in a Day

Houston attics can top 140°F in summer, sit in Gulf Coast humidity year-round, and take on water every time a storm like Beryl peels back shingles. Add roof rats nesting in the batts, and old insulation goes flat, damp, and sour. We pull it out through sealed hoses, bag it curbside, and leave a clean attic deck ready for new insulation.

  • ✓Sealed-hose extraction from your attic hatch to our collection unit outside, so nothing drifts into your bedrooms or AC returns
  • ✓Water-stained, rodent-fouled, or compacted insulation bagged and off your property the same day

Why Houston Attics Wear Out Fast

When Old Insulation Has to Come Out of a Houston Attic

Most Houston insulation doesn’t wear out from age. Water, heat, and pests break it down first. Harvey-era roof leaks left stained, matted batts in attics from Meyerland to Kingwood. The oak canopy over Oak Forest and Garden Oaks gives roof rats an easy bridge to the eaves. Many 1960s and 70s homes in Sharpstown and Alief still have their original blown-in fiberglass, now packed flat and holding decades of dust. Blowing new insulation over any of that doesn’t fix the problem. It buries it.

We treat removal as its own job. We clear the attic down to bare joists, vacuum the deck, and check the decking, rafters, and ductwork for leak stains, droppings, or mold before anything new goes in. That gives you a clean, dry attic you can actually inspect. If you’re re-insulating, it’s ready for new material that meets Houston’s current energy code, usually within the same week.

Houston Homeowners Ask Us This Most

6 Signs Your Houston Attic Insulation Needs Removal, Not Another Layer

These are the problems we find most in Houston attics. Each one gets worse, not better, once new insulation is blown over it.

Droppings, Nests, or Chewed Tunnels

Roof rats, squirrels, and raccoons love Houston attics, especially under oak and pine canopy. Their urine and droppings soak into the fiber and can’t be cleaned in place. We remove it, sanitize the deck, and flag entry points for sealing.

Water Stains From a Storm Leak

The 2024 derecho, Beryl, and Harvey all left Houston roofs leaking into attics. Wet cellulose clumps and never recovers, and damp insulation pressed against the decking is where attic mold takes hold.

Insulation Packed Flat or Thin

Blown-in insulation settles over 15–20 years. Once it is compressed below the joist line it is carrying a fraction of its rated R-value, no matter how much is there.

Smoke or Soot From a Fire

Even a small kitchen, garage, or electrical fire can leave smoke odor soaked into attic insulation. Removing it is the most reliable way to clear a smell that keeps coming back.

A Musty Smell That Returns After Duct Cleaning

If the odor comes back within weeks of an air duct cleaning, the source is usually above the ceiling. Houston humidity and damp insulation together are a common culprit.

Buying, Selling, or a Flagged Inspection

Texas home inspectors report attic insulation condition on the standard TREC inspection form. Documented removal and replacement answers that item before it stalls a Houston closing.

The Messiest Part, Done Right

How We Handle Attic Insulation Removal in Houston Homes

01
Attic inspection and quote
We go into the attic, photograph what is up there, measure the depth and the square footage, and identify whether the problem is moisture, rodents, age or all three. You get the photos and a fixed price before anything is touched.
02
Containment at the access point
Plastic containment goes up around the hatch and floors are covered along the hose run. This is the step that determines whether you find fiberglass in the hallway for the next month.
03
Sealed-hose vacuum extraction
A commercial insulation vacuum pulls the material through a sealed hose directly into bags at the truck. Nothing is carried through the house in open containers.
04
Deck cleaning and sanitizing
With the insulation gone we vacuum the joist bays and decking, then treat the surface with an EPA-registered antimicrobial where contamination was present.
05
Haul-away and walkthrough
Everything leaves with our truck. We walk you through the cleared attic — this is usually the first time a homeowner has seen their own decking, and it is when roof leaks and disconnected ducts get found.

Amazing service and Mori was the guy! It is a pleasure to be served by such professionals. I was going to get three bids and they were the second one I called. They asked when they could come and do they estimate and I said how about right now. Even though it was Saturday they came right out and Mori and his team did a very through evaluation and explained in detail what they would do. I asked when they could do the work, and they said can we do it now? I decided not to pursue the other two bids, and to my surprise they had the equipment and crew there and did the job all in the same day! It is a pleasure doing business with people like this. 5 stars all the way. We had a pretty neglected system that clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time (if EVER!!!), and these guys did an awesome job getting everything back in shape. Omri was the lead on our crew and he was fantastic. Very professional, super knowledgeable, and took the time to walk me through everything they were doing. You could tell they really cared about doing it right. No pressure, no upsells. Just solid, honest work. Highly recommend if your system needs a deep clean.

Thanks for the quick turnaround work. My AC and furnace unit was pretty dirty as previous tenant was very messy. Plus he had smoked inside house causing cigarette odor to contaminate unit. Crew came out and did a thorough clean up over a a span of 3-4hours. Before and after photos were night and day difference. Update: Company charges extra for use of credit card which was an additional $75.80 with final bill $1970.80. Attempting to pay with the credit card initially failed. Thinking there may be issue with card I used another card. Later I came to realize that I was double charged on two different credit card; however, what annoyed me was somehow the first bill was lot higher than anticipated ($1,989.75). Now I have to go fight to get the extra charge removed. While the work is commendable, the billing practice is questionable. Update: Jasmine was great to follow up on this issue and was able to get the extraneous charge reversed.

Houston Attic Insulation Removal: Common Questions

How long does attic insulation removal take in a Houston home?

Most single-story Houston homes take four to eight hours. Larger two-story homes in areas like Katy or Cypress, low-pitch bungalow attics in The Heights, or heavy rodent contamination can run into a second day. We give you a time estimate with your quote, after we've actually been in the attic.

Usually not. The sealed hose runs from the attic hatch to our collection unit outside, so fibers stay out of your living space. If someone in your home has asthma or a breathing sensitivity, or you have pets that stress easily, you may prefer to step out while we work.

Only if the old insulation is dry, clean, and just thin. If it's water-stained from a storm leak, holding rodent droppings, or smells of smoke, covering it traps the problem against your ceiling and keeps it in your air.

Yes, if you want us to. Once the attic is cleared and inspected, we can install new insulation that meets Houston's current energy code, usually within the same week. Some homeowners use the clean attic to fix roof leaks or air-seal first, and that's fine too.

It can be. Rat and mouse droppings and urine can carry bacteria and viruses, and disturbing them dry releases particles you don't want to breathe. That's why removal should be done with sealed equipment and protective gear, not a shop vac and a dust mask.

Sometimes. Many policies cover sudden damage, like a roof leak during Beryl or the 2024 derecho, but not long-term leaks or pest damage. Check with your insurer. We can provide photos and documentation of what we find to support your claim.

Yes. Houston's humidity keeps damp insulation from drying out, and wet material pressed against the roof deck is where attic mold usually starts. If we find mold during removal, we'll show you and explain your mold remediation options.

We work year-round, but late fall through spring is easiest, since summer attic temperatures can top 140°F. If you have an active leak, rodents, or a pending home sale, don't wait for cooler weather.

Not by itself. Removal clears out insulation that's no longer working. The savings come from what replaces it: new insulation at the right depth, plus sealing gaps around lights, vents, and the attic hatch. Pairing it with air duct cleaning helps your AC work less in Houston summers.

It depends on attic size, insulation type and depth, access, and whether there's rodent contamination to sanitize. We quote after an in-person look, so the price reflects your attic, not a guess.
